Word Crafting Poetry
Word Wizardry!

Poetry, has been referred to as the language of the soul. Poetry is an art form transcends boundaries, brings forth emotions, and a myriad of imagery in this world. Word craft and poetry has the power to evoke feelings, challenge perceptions, and (my goal) capture moments in time.
The Essence of Poetry and Word Craft
At the root, poetry distills the complexities of life into concise verses. This can express profound discoveries and emotions into the human condition. Whether it’s love, loss, joy, or despair, poetry has the ability to convey these emotions in ways that resonate deeply with other readers and writers.
The Craft of Poetry Writing
Word crafting is akin to word wizardry. I don't have my staff and owl yet, but I will work toward that goal! It has the ability to bring color into a very grey and cold world. Every line, every word choice and every stanza is a happy assault on the canvas of imagination and your mind. While there are countless forms of poetry, the essence remains the same. Poetry is there to provoke thoughts and ideas and evoke emotion.
As I mentioned in my last post, when writing different topics or themes, I try to experiment with different styles. I can pick from traditional styles like haikus and sonnets to experimental and free verse. Find a style that works for you or that you like. Once you find a style(don't limit yourself to anyone) you then can incorporate meter, rhyme, and imagery as key elements to create vivid and evocative verses.
Meter provides the easy flow and rhythm with cadence of a poem, guiding the reader through its journey. Rhyme adds cohesion, creating patterns that linger in the mind long after the words have been read but don't get trapped into feeling you need to end every line with a rhyme. Imagery, is perhaps the most robust and forceful tool in a poet’s arsenal. Imagery paints pictures and worlds with words, transporting readers to distant tropical or frozen landscape stirring long-forgotten memories and emotions.
The Spell-Casting Ability of Poetry
What I think sets poetry apart from other forms of literature is its compact ability to attack the imagination. A well-crafted poem has the power to really stop and make you think or just pause. Poetry sometimes takes the familiar or mundane and casts it into a new perspective.
Writing poetry in itself can act as a transformative experience or a frustrating one as well. It is a journey and a means of grappling with the complexities of existence. Poetry can serve as a celebration of the beauty of language. Through these compact and great verses, poetry gives voice to the ethereal, capturing moments of fleeting experience in each verse.
The world is often consumed by the noise and humdrum of daily life, poetry stands as a testament of beauty and truth. Poetry is a reminder of our shared humanity and the capacity for human empathy, and our endless capacity for wonder and hope. Whether reading or writing, poetry has a therapeutic value which everyone could benefit.
